Nevada native Scott Smith will play in the tournament:

“I believe that Scott Smith is an ideal candidate to receive one of our unrestricted exemptions,” Smoley wrote in a release. “Scott grew up here in Nevada, knows the area and the courses, and is a great kid. People in the area have watched him grow into a great golfer from high school through college, and now they have the chance to see him play at the professional level. This is an amazing opportunity for Scott, his family and all his fans, and I’m sure that he will make a big impact on this year’s Reno-Tahoe Open.”

Smith, who shot a course-record 60 at Washoe two years ago, said he has played Montreux between 75 and 100 times. He plans to play in the Sierra Nevada Invitational at ArrowCreek, July 19-20.

“I want to get a (professional) tournament under my belt before I play in the RTO,” he said.
